The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has formally dismissed reports published by the British outlet “Daily Mail” regarding the legal proceedings involving a UK national in Marrakesh. Contrary to claims suggesting the individual was detained for distributing food aid to children, official sources clarify that the allegations of “arrest” and “imprisonment” are entirely baseless.

Security officials revealed that the investigation was triggered by public reports of the individual filming vulnerable persons, including minors, in the historic Jemaa el-Fnaa square without consent. This act constitutes a violation of Moroccan law concerning the protection of personal data and image rights. While the individual’s phone was seized for digital forensic analysis to examine the recorded content, the authorities emphasized that he was never placed in police custody.

Following the standard legal process under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, the British national was presented before the judiciary while remaining at liberty. He now awaits a scheduled trial in accordance with national legislation. The DGSN reaffirmed its commitment to legal transparency, noting that all procedural guarantees were respected throughout the investigation.
